The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star); 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 The star of piercing brightness; 3 There is no soul but that it has over it a protector. 4 So man must consider from what he has been created. 5 He was created of a gushing fluid, 6 that issues from between the loins and the ribs. 7 Surely, He is Able to bring him back, 8 On the day when hidden things shall be made manifest, 9 when he will be helpless, with no supporter. 10 By the heavens, ever-revolving, 11 and by the earth bursting with vegetation; 12 It is surely a decisive utterance; 13 And it is not amusement. 14 They are devising guile, 15 And I secretly plan. 16 Let, then, the deniers of the truth have their will: let them have their will for a little while. 17
