He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
