Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 raised couches, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And carpets spread around. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
