Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a high Garden 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 well arranged goblets, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
