Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
