۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): 44 Cups of wine will be presented to them in rounds, from a spring flowing in front of them. 45 Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof), 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 Then some of them will turn to others, and will ask each other. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth? 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 Truly, this is the supreme success! 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 Verily We! We have made it a temptation for the wrong-doers. 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 Its produce is as it were the heads of the serpents. 65 on it they shall feed, and with it they shall fill their bellies. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 And afterward, lo! their return is surely unto hell. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 So had many an earlier people gone astray, 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah. 74
