Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In a high Garden 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 cushions ranged, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
