Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In the high empyrean, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 In which are high thrones. 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 and arranged cushions 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
