Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 labouring, weary, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And linen spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
