Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a high Garden. 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions lined up 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
