Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
