Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
