Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O satisfied soul, 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
