Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 And enter into My garden. 30
