Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter among My servants 29 And enter into My garden. 30
