Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Enter among My servants 29 Enter then My garden." 30
