Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 and by the passing night, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
