Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
