Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 And ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 The night as it advances, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
