Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 And enter into My garden. 30
