Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
