Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
