Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
