Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
