Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you – his illustrious son! 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
