The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you his illustrious son! 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
