And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 And if you obey a mortal like yourselves, then most surely you will be losers: 34 Does he promise you that when you die and have become dust and bones, that you will be brought forth again? 35 ۞ "Far, very far is that which you are promised. 36 There exists only our present life: we die and we live [but once], and shall never be raised up again. 37 He is nothing but a man who has forged against Allah a lie, we will never believe him' 38 The Messenger prayed, "Lord, help me; they have called me a liar". 39 He replied: 'Before long, by the morning, they shall be remorseful' 40 A blast struck them for a just cause, and We made them look like withered leaves. God keeps the unjust people away from His mercy. 41 Then We produced after them other generations. 42 no community can advance or postpone its appointed time, 43 then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time their messenger came to a people, they rejected him. So We destroyed them one after the other, and let them become mere tales. So away with the people who will not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and clear authority 45 Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they scorned (them) and they were despotic folk. 46 And they said: Shall we put faith in two mortals like ourselves, and whose folk are servile unto us? 47 So they rejected them and became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, that haply they would be guided; 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a miracle and settled them on a high land, quite secure and watered by a spring. 50
