۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what could make thee conceive what it is, that steep uphill road? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 to an orphaned relative 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
