The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 of an orphaned relative 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
