Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
