The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
