The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
