The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
