The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and his brightness, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 And indeed he fails who corrupts his ownself (i.e. disobeys what Allah has ordered by rejecting the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism or by following polytheism, etc. or by doing every kind of evil wicked deeds). 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings). 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
