The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
