The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day resplendent 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
