Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds: 192 Which the True Spirit hath brought down 193 upon thy heart, that thou mayest be one of the warners, 194 in clear Arabic speech. 195 And most surely the same is in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a token for them that the doctors of the Children of Israel know it? 197 If We had sent it down on a barbarian 198 who would have read it to them, they (pagans) would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused it to enter into the hearts of the guilty. 200 they shall not believe in it until they see the painful punishment 201 It shall come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 Then they will exclaim, "Could we have some respite?" 203 Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on? 204 Beholdest thou? if We let them enjoy for years. 205 And then there came to them that which they were promised? 206 of what avail would their past enjoyment be to them? 207 Never a city We destroyed, but it had warners 208 to admonish them. We have never been unjust. 209 And the satans have not brought it down. 210 it behoves them not, neither are they able. 211 Truly, they are expelled from hearing. 212 (Muhammad), do not worship anything besides God lest you suffer the punishment. 213 And warn thy clan, thy nearest kin. 214 Lower thy wing to those who follow thee, being believers; 215 Then if they disobey thee, say: "I am free (of responsibility) for what ye do!" 216 Put your trust in the Almighty, the Most Merciful, 217 Who sees you when you stand up. 218 And thy movements among those who prostrate themselves, 219 He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 220 Shall I tell you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every sinful, false one. 222 on those who whisper hearsay in the ears of people; and most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, only those who go astray follow them. 224 Observest thou not, that they wander about every vale. 225 And that they say that which they do not? 226 Except those who believed and did good deeds, and profusely remembered Allah, and took revenge after they had been wronged*; and soon the unjust will come to know upon which side they will be overturned**. (* The Muslim poets who praise Allah and the Prophet. ** The disbelievers will be punished.) 227
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
End of Surah: The Poets (Alshu'araa'). Sent down in Mecca after The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah) before The Ant (Al-Naml)
