The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
