The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
