The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And rejects the best, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
