The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And rejects goodness, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
