Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 He verily will be content. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
