The Night (Al-Layl)

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
