The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
