The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
