The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
