The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
