The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And rejects goodness, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
