The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
