The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
