The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
